Italian unions FIBA-CISL and DIRCREDITO have merged to form the largest trade union in the finance sector, representing employees, middle managers and executives in banks, insurance, collection agencies, Banca d’Italia, bank foundations and authorities. The new union FIRST-CISL will be entitled to negotiate collective agreements for all categories of workers in the sector.

FIRST-CISL is affiliated to the CISL confederation. The two sides of the merger share an ambition to implement a new model of worker representation involving all professional levels.

Giulio Romani is the General Secretary of FIRST-CISL and Maurizio Arena is Deputy General Secretary. National secretaries Mauro Incletolli and Filippo Arena are in charge of international policies.

FIRST-CISL has declared itself a new trade union in which the shared values of democracy, political autonomy, solidarity and social commitment turn into concrete priorities including workers’ representation and collective bargaining at company, national and transnational level.

The internal structure has been modified accordingly, through specific political responsibilities for banks and insurances, cooperative banks, middle managers and executives, with the aim to better meet the new challenges of representation and collective bargaining in the finance sector.
