French Prosegur workers in Lyon have been on strike since the 10th of September after the management of the Spanish multinational decided to withdraw a “risk bonus” that was in place due to the dangerous nature of a security guard’s work. The risk bonus was included in paid holiday leave, but management say they miscalculated and withdrew the bonus.

The strike entered its 21st day, and the tense situation is set to be tested further by Prosegur contesting the legality of the strike with the matter going to a tribunal. The tribunal is yet to make a decision.

Head of UNI Property Services Alice Dale said, “This is yet another example of Prosegur’s disregard for the inherent risks security workers face every day on the job.  Forcing security guards to the point of striking – for weeks – over taking away  a  “risk bonus” is just short-sighted and unfair.”
