UNI Apro Post & Logistics/SEWU-THP joint seminar

The UNI Apro Post and Logistics/SEWU-THP Joint Seminar was held July 27th in conjunction with the APPU joint seminar (28 – 29th). The seminars are hosted by the JPGU with cooperation from the APPC (Asian Pacific Postal College) – a training institute of the APPU (Asian Pacific Postal Union). The seminars are organized annually by UNI Apro Post and Logistics with the objective to train young union officers from postal unions around the world. This year saw a total of 19 participants (of which 8 are women) from Japan, Mongolia, Taiwan R.O.C, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, with an additional 33 participants of central and regional executives from SEWU-THP. Sisters Saori Sasaki and Mika Hagiwara joined us from Japan.
At the opening ceremony, Bro. Wilert, President of SEWU-THP shared with us the current status of Thailand Post and emphasized the importance of continually providing quality services in order to achieve and maintain a profitable and sustainable business. Bro. Eiichi Ito, Director of UNI Apro Post and Logistics, introduced the current situation of USPS, and gave us his insight on their financial success since 2006 together with the strategic steps for further development of postal operations in the Asia Pacific region.
In addition, representatives from both the union and the management of Thailand Post gave reports on postal services in Thailand. Bro. Phasi, Vice President of SEWU-THP, highlighted their continued efforts to improve the quality of service and labor conditions throughout its 130 year history. Sis. Uraiwan, Manager of the Operating Systems and Financial Services Development Division Operating Systems Management Department, also spoke on the importance of rich and quality services as the key for the continuous development of Thailand Post.
Participants presented the current state of postal services in their respective countries during the second half of the seminar. Sis. Saori Sasaki reported the present conditions of Japan Post and their strategies for the future including international logistics, along with a brief outline of the JPGU. Sis. Mika Hagiwara reported on their OHS activities and indicated the crucial role labor unions play in creating a safe work environment.
On the following day, participants visited Laksi Mail Center and enjoyed observing the site of Logistics.
