Prosegur in Colombia has sent a communication to all its employees, questioning the integrity of police who went to the premises of the company in Bogotá to detain the legal representative in the country, Alejandro Agudelo.

On the 10th of March, members of the Metropolitan Police of Bogotá went to the offices of Prosegur to execute an arrest order against Agudelo for not complying with a judicial ruling from September 2014 to rehire a dismissed unionized worker. Agudelo was not on Prosegur’s premises at the time.

The two police were dressed in civilian clothes, carried identification and presented themselves as Humberto Tovar Paez and Wilmar Garzon from the Metropolitan Police of Bogota.

The two agents showed the capture order to Prosegur, but did not hand the document to the company.

In its communication Prosegur claims, “the so-called members of the police presented themselves at the headquarters of the company, never identified themselves as members of the security forces, and in fact, were not in uniform. We do not know the reason why these people presented themselves at the company as they didn’t hand any order to the security personal as is required”.

“Prosegur has to tell the truth. The law is the law, the police are the police, and an order is an order”, said Alice Dale Head of Property Services for UNI Global Union.

The capture order against Alejandro Agudelo is still valid in Colombia and the Prosegur manager hasn’t presented himself to police to explain his situation. The dismissed worker has been rehired by the company but to date still has not received her back-pay and social security payments.
