UNI ILC Women's Committee and Youth Committee pledge support to 40/40 and Break the Circle!

UNI ILC WOMEN & YOUTH Conference & UNI ILC/FES Empowerment  Program for Women & Youth was held in Chennai  from 19th to 21st Sept.2014. Women & Youth from the affiliates participated with enthusiasm and expressed their support to UNI strategic priorities. Participants from Finance, Postal, MEI had lively discussions about the need to organise women & youth in the unions .

The participants stressed that the strategy should be action oriented and focused more on “ finding solutions to challenges, not only discussing the challenges”. The need to create space for women in the decision making bodies and the need to hear the voice of youth was debated at length and an Action Plan to  organise and to empower the women & youth in the affiliates was developed during the conference and the program. It was decided to strengthen the network of women and build a network of youth. A facebook page of UNI ILC Youth and whatsapp group were formed during the program.

Gender Balance, Safe and secure workplace and the stake of women and youth in the unions today were some of the issues discussed. The participants shared their experiences and expressed their expectations. The program was organised and the details worked out under the Mentoring Project .Mentees Soma  Ghosh and Paromita Adhikary worked in tandem with Mentors Sharada Bangera and Anjali Bedekar.

The program was supported by FES India. Dr.Pravin Sinha, Senior Adviser, FES India was present .He congratulated the newly elected office bearers of the UNI ILC Women & Youth Committee and promised further support to UNI ILC for the programs for integration of Women & Youth in the unions.

Bro.Rajendra Acharya, Director ,TUD,UNI APRO, conveyed the greetings and message of support from Bro.Christopher NG, Regional Secretary, UNI APRO.
Bro.Milind Nadkarni, President ,UNI ILC , Bro.Theagarajan, General  Secretary, UNI ILC,Bro.Prasad,Director,UNIDOC,Bro.Karthik Sekhar ,General Secretary, UNITES  and Sis.Sharada Bangera, President UNI ILC Women Committee addressed the conference .
Sis.Sharada Bangera, AIBOBEF was elected President of Women Committee. Sis.Soma Ghosh, FNPO was elected General Secretary of UNI ILC Women Committee.

Sis.Nirupitha G.,UNITES was elected President of UNI ILC  Youth Committee. Sis.Paromita Adhikary, AINLIEF was elected General Secretary of UNI ILC Youth Committee.
