Walter Palmer, Head of UNI Sports Pro visited some of UNI Japanese affiliates including UAZensen, ICTJ and JAW on Monday, 14 April to introduce what UNI Sports Pro is trying to achieve and exchange views on athlete employees.  Some Japanese companies hire sports athletes as employees and sponsor sports teams. 

He reminded them that athletes are also workers and their rights have to be protected.  Fans often look at a handful of top stars who make big money while there are many more athletes who are struggling under the difficult and unilateral conditions imposed by clubs/employers.

When he met Bro. Takagi, the former President of the Japanese Trade Union Confederation (JTUC-Rengo) and Bro. Kozu, General Secretary of Rengo, he urged the Japanese trade union movement to start engagement with the Japanese Olympic Committee to make the event successful by ensuring the rights for all workers including construction workers, cleaners and athletes.  He shared information on some big sports events and local and international trade unions’ engagements, such as London Olympic, World Cups in Rio and Qatar.
