“The government policy of healthcare privatization...will result in the skyrocket rise of hospital bills, overtreatment, the destruction of National Health Insurance, and the polarization of medical services. At the same time, the policy is a labor repression to coerce health workers to bend our knees to inhumane competition and commodification. To defend our workplace and popular health from profit-seeking capitals is the mission of health workers and the order for 44,000 KHMU members given by people and society. We need to stop the government policy of healthcare privatization.” 

These strong words were spoken to the huge crowd of KHMU members who gathered in Seoul on February 28th to rally and protest the Korean government's privatization agenda.  The rally followed on from the KHMU's  national congress in February where members planned a series of nationwide activities for the coming months. The KHMU will implement a one-million sign up campaign; hold national collective bargaining in March; a national rally against healthcare privatization in April; a one-day training for members in April; and stage a nation-wide strike in June. 

UNI Global Union sent a video message of support to the KHMU for their action, and UNICARE affiliates stand with the KHMU in their struggle to oppose reforms and wish them well for their actions over the coming months.
