Philip Jennings, General Secretary of UNI global union, made a speech to Japanese financial affiliates on 4 February, the day before attending UNI-LCJapan Annual General Meeting. 15 members including Bro. Masakazu Tahara, President of UNI Apro / UNI-LCJ Finance joined the meeting.  UNI-LCJ Finance is composed of 5 affiliates, whose fields vary from trust bank, labor bank,　insurance cooperative to insurance company.

In his speech entitled “Learning from European Experience”, he explained how the short-term profit orientation of the banking industry has brought about devastating impacts on workers’ lives. Finance workers have been under huge pressures to sell high-risk financial products. Counteracting the situation, UNI has opened up various channels at all levels such as L20, WEF, IMF, ECB and FSB.  Philip emphasized the important role of UNI representing workers’ voice to construct a more stable and responsible financial industry.
