The new JPGU policy now gives English-speaking rank-and-file workers more opportunities to interact with other unions, facilitating more direct and candid exchanges between unions.
One of the workers benefiting from this new policy is Koharu Yamanaka, a JPGU rank-and-file worker from the Kochi prefecture, who was given an opportunity to attend two seminars by ASPEK and SPPI, and meet up with the DHL union in Indonesia from 20-24 February 2014. The UNI Apro Post & Logistics Director Eiichi Ito was also present to assist in communications when needed.
The seminar for Bekashi and Chikarang Logistics Workers Network of Aspek was held in Linfox in the outskirts of Jakarta. The seminar coincided with the conclusion of a CBA between the management and union, and the JPGU guests were present as official witnesses when the new CBA was signed. Sis. Yamanaka shared a presentation on JPGU activity which was followed by a floor discussion.
Yamanaka also had the chance to meet up with the President of DHL union Indonesia who said that his union is close to reaching 50%+1 membership.
Following the meeting was the SPPI seminar held in Bandung from 22 to 23 March 2014. Yamanaka shared information about JPGU’s activities and Japan Post where she was later met with a lot of questions from the floor regarding the IPO process and union fees in Japan. Handling the questions calmly, Yamanaka was hailed by SPPI unionists and the rank and file workers from Indonesia and Japan quickly became good friends.
Yamanaka also met up Mr. Budi Setiawan, President Director of Pos Indonesia. They discussed issues related to privatization, improvement of postal services in Indonesia, and human resource development.
