The Swiss media and communications affilate, syndicom, opened their first post-merger congress this morning at the Beaulieu Expo Center in Lausanne. The congress aims to take up a number of important items for the union, including developing a plan for union growth, strengthening collective agreements and laying out the union's political position during an important moment in Swiss politics. 

As the union opened congress, they announced a new tentative pay agreement with Swiss Post and PostFinance which will cover more than 34,000 workers in the Swiss postal system and its personal financial arm. Workers will receive a 700 franc lump sum payment and a 0.8% wage rise in the next year. Furthermore, the minimum wage for all workers in the postal system was increased to 50,000 Swiss francs. The agreement has yet to be ratified by members. Wage negotiations for workers in PostCar, the post office's public tranpsort arm and two commercial service companies, are ongoing.

Alain Carrupt, the co-president of the union, was elected unanimously as president for the next term. Bernadette Häfliger Berger was elected vice president.
