Affiliates of UNI Property Services Global Union from Asia, the Americas, Africa and Europe met over the last two days in Berlin to decide the union’s direction for 2008.



The group endorsed UNI’s campaign for a new global agreement with ISS, the Danish multinational property services giant which has increased its workforce by 130,000 in the last 2 years. ISS now employs 80,000 workers in the world’s economic powerhouse of Asia, almost all of whom are non-union.



Swedish company EQT and Goldman Sachs, the private equity owners of ISS, are expected to make USD2 billion on the sale of the company later this year. UNI and its affiliates will fight for this company to respect the rights of ISS workers to organise, in principle and practice.



During 2008, UNI will develop a network of unions committed to workplace justice for ISS employees around the world, gather information about conditions for ISS workers, especially in Asia, begin to support organising campaigns for ISS workers and will keep a spotlight on the company's private equity owners.
