UNI's Kenyan affiliate, the Communication Workers Union, is threatening to call for a strike supporting its members of Telkom Kenya who demand a 202 per cent pay hike. This decision was made after negotiations between the union and management officials, which began on April 10, collapsed.

The union has announced it will not agree with the 10 % increase proposed by the company. Benson Okwaro, the Chairman of CWU, told it was "insult to the workforce" and called on its members in the Postal Corporation to join in the strike in a show solidarity with Telkom employees.

For now members of the Telkom workers union have resolved to stage a go-slow and boycott Telkom services.

UNI Telecom has sent a letter of protest to the Telkom Kenya CEO.
