UniCredit EWC meeting

04/22/2008 - During this meeting, the EWC representatives and Central Management have agreed to and signed an agreement on the establishment of joint commissions. UNI Finance welcomes this step forward.
During this meeting - which took place from 7 to 9 April in Milan - an agreement was reached between the EWC representatives and management on the establishment of joint commissions. Each commission will be formed by 6 EWC representatives and 6 central management representatives. Two commissions will soon start working on issues related to corporate social responsibility (CSR): one on Training, Learning and Professional Development and the other on Equal Opportunities and Non-Discrimination.
The objective of the commissions will be to sign by the end of 2008 a joint statement on common guidelines. This will be considered a general framework aimed at orienting the whole Group's activity and initiatives, in line with the CSR principles and Integrity Charter values.
Lucia Peveri, UNI-Europa Finance representative, said: "UNI Finance will keep on monitoring and supporting this European Works Council, which can undoubtedly be placed among the top ones".
Another step forward in UniCredit EWC includes the increase in the number of employees covered by the agreement. In September 2007, when the EWC was created, it covered 147,000 employees in 27 European countries. It now covers more than 180,000 workers. This increase is mainly due to some important take-overs (including Capitalia Group in Italy). This could lead to an increase of EWC members (44 at present) as well as of number of countries represented.
In addition, a workshop was organised in Turin (Italy) one month ago and brought together EWC members and head of Human Resources from 27 countries. The aim of this workshop was to get to know each other and to exchange points of view.
Another workshop will be held in May in Milan, with focus on training EWC members on EU labour legislation, EU agenda, social dialogue and industrial relations at national level and in the UniCredit Group.
