An industrial court in Mumbai has issued an interim order to protect 5,500 G4S security workers from unfair dismissal.



The guards have brought an action against their employer claiming overtime wages due to them under the law. The unions argued in court that the company had threatened workers and ordered them to "stay away from trade union activities". Workers said that they feared the termination of their employment for joining the union.



The court ordered that none of the employees involved in the complaint against G4S should be fired from service without following the legal procedure.



UNI Property Services is working with the trade union centres INTUC and CITU on the Security for Security Workers campaign to establish and strengthen unions in the industry and give an effective voice to India's 5 million guards.
