Communication workers converge in Liverpool

Delegates representing some 250,000 communications workers from all corners of the UK will be converging in Liverpool this weekend for the start of the Communication Workers Union’s (CWU) annual national conference.

 

At the head of the first union to hold its conference in this year’s European Capital of Culture is Liverpool born and bred CWU general secretary Billy Hayes, who is delighted to bring this most important gathering of the year home to his native city.

 

Billy Hayes said: “The city of Liverpool and the trade union movement have long historical links so I was delighted when Liverpool was chosen as the European Capital of Culture and I was even more thrilled when the union’s executive decided to hold the union’s annual conference here in June 2008. During the week-long summit, delegates will discuss, debate and decide upon a range of vitally important issues and tough challenges facing workers in our nation’s postal, telecommunications, logistics and financial services industries.
