On 5 and 6 June, representatives from social partners of the EU Audiovisual Social Dialogue Committee gathered in Prague for a two days seminar on promotion of social dialogue in new EU member States. Fifty representatives from Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia and Romania as well as representatives from EU 15 member states took part in the seminar.
The seminar - jointly organised by the ACT,AER, CEPI, EBU and FIAPF on the employers’ side and EFJ, EURO-MEI, FIA and FIM on the unions’ side - aimed at exchanging of experience on the functioning of social dialogue and sharing information on collective bargaining among social partners. The seminar is part of a project funded by the Directorate General of Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities of the European Commission to promote national social dialogue in the audiovisual sector in new EU member states.
Bringing together over thirty union representatives from the European federations of actors, journalists, musicians and EURO-MEI, affiliates could exchange on the state of social dialogue and the challenges the respective organisations face. Representatives from the new member states underlined that the main challenge is to bring employer organisations to the negotiation table and in some cases even to recognise the unions. The absence of national associations of relevant employers in the sub-sectors hinders the building of sustainable and efficient social dialogue structure. The seminar also allowed to inform affiliates on the EU social dialogue and the work of the audiovisual committee. Joint information sessions on collective bargaining enabled participants to learn more about the realities of national bargaining structure in some of the EU 15 member states. The European social partners committed to continue their efforts to promote the development of adequate social dialogue structure in the audiovisual sector throughout the EU.
