3rd UNI-Europa Youth Summer School - Lisbon

Dear Colleagues,
From 28 September - 3 October 2008, UNI-Europa Youth will conduct the 3rd Summer School for youth activists from UNI-Europa affiliates.
The Objectives of the Summer School are the following:
- To strengthen the union movement through young, well trained leaders
- To mainstream young workers’ issues into UNI-Europa’s affiliates
- To increase the active participation of young people in the structures and activities of UNI-Europa’s affiliates
- To raise the confidence of young activists
- To improve young activists’ negotiation skills
- To improve young activists’ presentation and communication skills
- To help young activists to identify their personal goals and targets
The 5-Day Programme will focus on enhancing the young activists’ skills in the following areas:
- Communication Skills
- Presentation Skills
- Negotiation Skills
Through the use of inter-active training methods, such as simulation exercises, video training, case studies and discussion groups the participants will practise their newly acquired skills.
The international environment of the seminar with participants from all over Europe will also improve the young activists’ understanding for cultural differences as well as tolerance and solidarity.
Interpretation
The Seminar will be conducted in English – no interpretation will be provided. Participants need to have a sufficient level of English to be able to follow the Seminar.
Venue & Accommodation
The Seminar will take place at the SBSI Training Centre in Casal do Zote – Beco, 2240-208 Ferreira do Zêzere, Portugal
Flights & Airport Transfer
Flights and transfer from the participant’s home to Lisbon are not included in the hotel price and have to be organised by the sending union.
Arrival and Departure time
As the summer school venue is outside Lisbon, in order to facilitate a smooth transfer all participants are requested to arrive in Lisbon at the hotel before 18.00 on 28th September for a drinks reception and to get to know the other participants before transferring to the school venue in the morning of the 29th September.
Participants will also stay in the city of Lisbon on the night of 3rd October for the final evening social before departing on flights on the 4th October.
Participation Fee
The cost will be 450 Euro per person which includes:
- 2 nights stay in Novotel Lisbon 28/9 & 3/10
- 4 nights at the training centre including meals.
- Bus transfer (Lisbon to the centre) around 90 minutes
Expenses and Insurance
Travelling and subsistence expenses of participants are the responsibility of the affiliate concerned. UNI cannot take out insurance coverage for participants.
Registration
In order to ensure the desired quality of the seminar the number of participants must not exceed 30. Registrations will be confirmed in the order they are received, while a one place per union rule is being observed. If after the end of the registration period there are places vacant, unions that already have a confirmed participant will be able to get confirmation for a second participant. According to the UNI-Europa Youth Rules Participants must be no older than 35 years of age.
