Connect welcomes today's announcement that BT is to commit to substantial investment in next generation access fibre broadband services. Connect has consistently called for investment in fibre networks reflecting the importance of fast broadband for the future of the UK's communications infrastructure and the international competitiveness of the UK.

Adrian Askew, General Secretary of Connect said: "This is great news from BT. They have stepped up to the mark with this announcement and Connect members in the company will play a big part in the deployment of the new networks and the services they will carry. It's now up to the regulator and the Government to provide the necessary stability and support for this investment so that the UK can become the global leader in high speed communications".
