The acquisition of Fortis by BNP Paribas was welcome by unions as there is a great complementarity between the two financial institutions. However, the social issues arising from the acquisition have not been addressed yet and many questions remain: how many job losses will there (in particular in areas where there is some overlap)? what will happen to the insurance business of Fortis?



UNI Finance and affiliated trade unions in France and Belgium ask that existing social agreements are respected and that management of both companies enter in discussions with workers' representatives. The priority must be the protection of employment.
