Earlier this month, UNI-Europa organized a P&MS conference on web 2.0 and online rights with the support of the European Commission. More than 80 participants from 18 EU countries gathered in Tallinn, Estonia.



Industrial relations and social dialogue in the new Web 2.0 world have been discussed. Some UNI-initiatives such as the fist-virtual strike in Second Life and the revision of the on-line rights code for workers have been presented.



The aim of the conference was to reflect on the possibilities offered by new web 2.0 tools such as social networking, virtual worlds, blogs and wikis to trade unions and the labor movement. New forms of virtual meetings and the way unions could disseminate information will certainly help us reach a wider and younger public, although further steps need to be undertaken.



But it was also mentioned that unions need a social network that is non-commercial, respects our privacy, and is designed to support us in our efforts to campaign and organize. A video on these issues has also been produced. If you want to get more familiar with web 2.0 tools please click here.
