 In Tokyo, RENGO's women committee members distributed leaflets with roses to people on the street in the commercial district near Ginza.

UNI-Apro Women Committee member, Sis.Tamami Uda, NWJ/Joho-Roren was among them to raise public awareness on the equal pay for equal work.

In spite of raining, smiling women committee members wearing red uniform were highly visible toward evening!



Following this campaign on the street, a Symposium was held with more than 700 participants (60 % was women).  Many UNI affiliates in Japan joined this event.

One of three women panelists was Sis. Mayumi Makita, a young activist of JSD who joined the 3rd UNI-LCJ Youth English Camp and also was the Head of UNI-LCJ Youth delegation to Manila.

She is the Executive Committee Member of Credit Saison Union. The Credit Saison Co. employs about 3,000 workers, 80% are women and 60% are contract workers.

She talked about her union's successful achievement to get some of their non-regular staff paid and treated as almost equally as regular workers, including the application of monthly salary from hourly rates and the same pay scale as regular workers' and the change from three-year contract to secured employment until the age of 60.



After singing "Solidarity Forever" together, the statement was adopted to pledge that trade unions and members can play a leading role to achieve better society where decent work and work life balance are secured by uniting our efforts in such a difficult time.
