EURO-MEI (the Media, Entertainment, Arts and Sports sector of UNI europa) and EASE (the European Association of Sport Employers) took concrete steps towards European Sectoral Social Dialogue (ESSD) for the Sport sector at the occasion of the 2nd conference in the framework of the CC-project (Content and Contact: Moving forward towards European social dialogue in the sport sector).
This conference was held in Lisbon on 1st and 2nd April 2009 around the theme of health and safety in the sport sector. The topic was discussed from different angles: representatives of the sub-sectors professional sport, active leisure and not-for-profit were given the opportunity to comment on the results of a study into the matter by the T.M.C. ASSER Institute (The Netherlands). The conclusions of these panel discussions are to be written into a joint statement by EURO-MEI and EASE, which would be the second document negotiated and agreed by the European social partners for the sport sector after their mutual recognition in February 2008 at the Final Conference of the RBT-Project.

During the conference EURO-MEI and EASE also officially signed the "Joint recommendations on minimum requirements of employment contracts in the sport sector" (see attached) based on the results of a study by Planet Labor (France) and discussions during the 1st conference of the project last December in London.
The project will be finalised on 27th May 2009 at the second Informal Social Dialogue for the Sport Sector in Brussels. After that the EURO-MEI/UNI europa and EASE will, facilitated by the European Commission, establish a European Sectoral Social Dialogue Committee for the Sport sector.
