![]() UNI LCJ held its 7th round of English Camp specially catered for its youth members all over Japan. More than 30 participants attended the 7th UNI LCJ Youth English Camp who were in Nagasaki in preparation for the coming 10th year anniversary and 3rd UNI World Congress in Nagasaki 2010. Bro Sakurada greeted the participants at this camp at the opening address in English with words of encouragement, motivating them to give their best in preparation for the Nagasaki World Congress. Participants were then treated to a series of presentations showing the works of UNI Global Union as well as labour related issues from India, Philippines and Singapore. Everyone was learnt about the realities of child labour through a presentation made by “Action against Child Exploitation (ACE)”, a local NGO in Japan. For this important UNI World Congress, the UNI LCJ youth will be playing an important role – to be volunteers as English-speaking guides at Nagasaki. This series of English camps are part of the process to “step up” their English language skills and to give the UNI LCJapan youth network opportunities to network among themselves. The highlight of the three day program is the Nagasaki city group tour where youth participants were tasked to be English language tour guides to the foreign resource persons and to familiarise themselves with the city where the Congress is to be held. In the end, the groups presented areas in Nagasaki city where they thought could need improvements for the smooth running of next year’s event. Till date, more than 200 young participants have already benefitted from the UNI LCJ English Camps and there will be two more camps coming up. |
