UNI-Apro Post & Logistics / APPC Joint Seminar

- UNI-Apro Post & Logistics/APPC Joint Seminar sponsored by the UNI Japan Post was held in Bangkok on 8-9 June, where 11 colleagues (5 female) participated. Participants came from India, Indonesia, Nepal, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam.
At the opening ceremony, Mr. Somchai Reopanichkul, Director of the Asian Pacific Postal College (APPC), delivered an encouraging message to the participants that it is necessary to provide even better and more effective postal services to the customers given the current global financial crisis. The seminar is therefore very timely in providing participants with new skills, information and tool in the new global climate.
On behalf of UNI-Apro Post & Logistics, Brother Roh Joon-hwan, Coordinator for UNI Apro Post and Logistics sector expressed deep appreciation to APPC’s long cooperation and mentioned that this seminar has gave many union leaders an opportunity to keep abreast with current postal issues as well as industrial relations matters.
Mr. Somchai, Director of APPC, gave an outline of present situation confronting the global postal services and the organizational structure of UPU and APPU. Other thematic presentations and lectures include the following:
1. Business Excellence - Business Dimension of Post, Changing Scenario of Postal Business, Mail and Parcel& Logistics
Management (Mr. Chandra)
2. Business Model of Korea Post Utilizing IT (Consultant, Mr. Lim Jung-sung)
3. Operational Excellence – Operational dimension of Post together with Human Resource Management (Mr. Wasim Jafar).
As part of the seminar program, participants visited the Laksi Mail Center of Thailand Post to see the operations of automatic mail sorting machines.
Especially participants had joint group discussion as the first trial of this seminar since 1999 on the theme of How to make Post profitable under the Economic Crisis moderated by Mr. Chandra and Mr. Wasim together with IT Course participants who were coming from managers of IT or Postal Business of 12 countries in Asia and the Pacific region including Azerbaijan, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, Lao, Myanmar etc.
APPC expressed its continue interest to this seminar on annual basis which has over the years contributed to promoting mutual understanding between labor and management in post services.
This joint seminar has initiated in 1999 sponsored by the UNI-Japan Post and to date more than 135 trade unionists have benefitted from these courses.
