The date was September 14, 2009; the venue was the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (University of the City of Manila); and the event, signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the UNI-PLC Youth Committee and the PLM.
The inimitable youth committee from the Philippines makes history once again as the signing of a MOA with the prestigious local university paves way for the beginning of a new working partnership. With the said agreement, an estimated 12,000 university students will have the opportunity of learning from our “Union Goes to Campus” project such important lessons regarding the International Labour Office (ILO) and the decent work agenda. In turn, the UNI-PLC youth committee will have a chance to spread the word about unionism and its purpose in today’s context.
After the MOA signing, the youth committee was treated to a warm PLM hospitality; being given a first rate tour about its history, tradition and legacy. An hour’s tour brought nostalgia to all of us thinking of how much we missed our college life.
Since the President of the PLM, Atty. Adel Tamano, is also the President of the Association of Local Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (ALCU), the youth committee will have better chances in informing the future workers and unionists about the agenda on decent work. Atty.Adel Tamano, recognizing the good vision and good works by the UNI-PLC Youth Committee, is committed to assist the UNI-PC Youth Committee in coming up with a MOA with the other ALCU members.
