The Communications Workers' Union (CWU) in Ireland is visiting call centres around the country in October to mark call centre action month.



The union kicked off its campaign in Vodafone call centres in Dundalk and Dublin, meeting with around 1,000 workers in total.



CWU has a collective agreement with Vodafone, who respects its workers' fundamental rights to freedom of association and collective bargaining. The relationship between CWU and Vodafone is an example of what can be achieved by working in partnership.



Vodafone workers signed post cards in solidarity with their colleagues at O2, a subsidiary of Telefonica. Unlike Vodafone in Ireland, Telefonica is not respecting the rights of its workers to organise, despite having signed a global agreement with UNI in which it commits to do so. UNI and its affiliates around the world are running the Tell Telefonica post card and on-line petition campaign to call on the company to meet its commitments and its international legal obligations regarding labour rights.
