Meeting with the Argentinean Women’s Network

On November 2, during a visit of Kathy Gonzalez to the UNI Americas Sub-regional Office in Buenos Aires, the Vice President of the Women's Committee, Sister Gladys Zamponi organized a meeting with the Argentinean Women’s Network. Delegates from trade union of: La Bancaria, ALEARA, FUVA, FAECYS, and FATSA took part of the meeting.
The meeting served to exchange valuable information. The delegates were informed about the official designation of Kathy Gonzalez as Responsible of the Women’s Group of in UNI americas, and also Liaison Person with UNI for Hair & Beauty Sector. The news was greatly welcomed by the delegates who expressed satisfaction for this appointment, and committed their support and collaboration so that the task is successfully achieved.
The women shared the different activities they perform in the network. In this regards, they asked to send a letter to the general secretary and/or presidents of the trade union organizations asking them for the designation of one or two sisters of their unions so that they participate in the different activities of the Network, since they consider that it is vital for the continuity of their works. They also pointed out that in view of the proximity of the UNI World Congress to be held in Nagasaki Japan, will be extremely important that the circular of invitation to this event should emphasize on gender balance of the trade union delegations. The issue of the resolution on promoting gender equality in UNI which aims to reach the long-term a 40% representation of women in all its decision-making structures and meetings was also discussed in this meeting.
Similarly, a PPT presentation was exhibit to show to women a brief overview of the meeting of the Global Partner of the Decisions for Life Project, recently held in Brussels. The DFL Project is currently carried out in Brazil, and its main objective is to help young women to become aware about career decisions and work life balance.
Finally, sisters expressed their expectation that from now on they could work a specific gender program; “now you can count on our full-time support underlined Kathy”, who urged sisters, once again, to keep contact with the Regional Office and UNI head office, in order to establish a regular swap of information and ideas.
