UNI Global Union is sending over 10,000 Tell Telefonica post cards to the company's head office in Madrid today.



During Call Centre Action Month in October 2009, over a dozen UNI affiliates around the world from countries as diverse as Brazil, Liberia, Mexico, Tunisia, Ireland and Australia asked workers to sign post cards addressed to Telefonica's CEO Cesar Alierta.



Telefonica was one of the first multinational companies to sign a global agreement with UNI, back in 2001, when it agreed to respect all of its workers rights, worldwide.



Despite this agreement, many Telefonica workers in Ireland, Mexico and other parts of Latin America, still do not have the opportunity to properly exercise some of their fundamental human rights.



The post cards call on the company to respect its global agreement with UNI and ensure that its workers rights to organise trade unions and to bargain collectively are protected everywhere. The UNI-Telefonica global agreement has enabled many thousands of workers in countries like Chile and Brazil to join unions and bargain collectively. UNI is working with its affiliates to ensure that those rights can be enjoyed by all of the company's workers.



UNI and its affiliates have taken enthusiastic global collective action this year showing our transnational strength and our willingness and commitment to work together to support each other as telecom workers worldwide.



In 2010, we look forward to working together with all our affiliates and their members to lift labour standards and to build even greater global power for workers.
