Message by the UNI Europa Finance President



On behalf of UNI-Europa Finance, but also in my own name, I wish to convey our heartfelt feelings of political and trade union solidarity with all our brothers and sisters and friends.



We are all still totally shocked by the murder – there is no other name for this crime – of our three colleagues who worked at the Marfin Egnatia Bank. Two female and one male employees died a tragic death, killed by someone who wanted to contribute to the chaos that is descending upon Greece, our Greece. A Greece made up of honest workers who are being forced to pay the bill for all the damage caused by an irresponsible and corrupt political class and by an economic system that has emptied the coffers of the State.



Workers and pensioners are engaged in a just and righteous struggle. They should not be held responsible for the financial disaster. The conditions imposed by the IMF and Brussels are unacceptable. The terms of the refinancing package need to be renegotiated so as to make them more socially just and acceptable. No family in Europe could bear the deep cuts required by the budget.



UNI Finance backs OTOE and all Greek workers and stands in solidarity with their struggle. In such a dramatic situation we wish to express our unstinting support and extend our condolences to the families of the victims and to the wounded.



At the next meeting of the UNI Finance Steering Group on 18 May, I shall suggest that a delegation be sent to Athens to meet you and to give physical expression to our solidarity with you.
