UNI Europa Post & Logistics has been informed by our Turkish affiliates about the misbehaviour of UPS management in Turkey.
We condemn the UPS management in Turkey for its anti-union policy set against the organising campaign by TÜMTIS, which has escalated over the past few weeks with a total of 76 workers being dismissed from the company and its subsidiaries in Istanbul, Izmir and Ankara.
We further condemn the local management led by Mr. Haluk Ündeger who has mounted huge pressure on the workforce not to join TÜMTIS in all worksites of the company in Turkey.
We demand the company open a dialogue with TÜMTIS to settle this dispute and immediately reinstates all dismissed workers and recognizes trade union representation for UPS workers in Turkey.
We are in solidarity with TÜMTIS and the UPS workers in Turkey and congratulate TÜMTIS and its members for their resistance and determination to continue the struggle.
For UNI Europa Post & Logistics such anti-Union behaviour is not acceptable. Therefore we ask all affiliated Unions to support the Turkish Union in their fight by sending protest messages to the UPS CEO and Turkish management and contacting their national UPS management to raise serious concerns over this violation of workers’ rights in Turkey.
Further we will inform the Turkish government and UPS central management in the United States about UNI’s abhorrence to their behaviour in this case and ask for a an immediate resolution to the issue. We will also be showing our total support for the Turkish UPS workers by sending a union delegation to the picket line in Istanbul
