UNI Property Services is working with unions in Europe and South America to campaign for a global agreement with Prosegur.
Prosegur is one of the largest and most established global private security service provider in the world. They are based in Spain but they also operate in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, France, Italy, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal, Romania and Uruguay. Prosegur has a workforce of over 100,000 employees and more than 600 offices. Prosegur presents itself as an employer with a strong commitment to social responsibility. It has established a Prosegur Foundation, through which social and cultural contributions are channelled. UNI has long demanded that social responsibility commitments need to also extend to a company's workforce.
Alice Dale, Head of UNI Property Services said, "After many attempts, we have failed to obtain a satisfactory dialogue with the company over the establishment of a global agreement. It is very disappointing that a company with Prosegur's extensive social responsibility programmes, has been unwilling to engage with UNI concerning fair treatment of their workers wherever the company operates in the world. Prosegur is the type of company that we would hope would lead their industry on issues of fair treatment and the right of workers to organise.
We will continue to seek a constructive dialogue with Prosegur. At the same time, we will work to address issues of unfair treatment of workers that we are uncovering as we come to know Prosegur not just in Europe but in Latin America. Whether UNI and Prosegur enter into a Global Agreement or not, these issues need to be addressed."
