Happy 25th International Youth Day !
Today, August 12th is officially the International Youth Day and is the 25th year of the event!
Each year the United Nations agency organises the youth day with a set theme. For 2010, the theme is Dialogue and Mutual Understanding.
In addition, the united nations have declared that starting today, it will be "International Year of Youth "
The International Labour Office (ILO) has launched a new study on youth employment trends to coincide with International Youth Day. The new report, entitled “Global Employment Trends for Youth August 2010: Special issue on the impact of the global economic crisis on youth” provides a broad assessment of global and regional employment for those aged 15 to 24, with a specific focus on how the economic crisis has affected the youth labour market.

In the report, according to the ILO projections, the global youth unemployment rate is expected to continue its increase through 2010, to 13.1%, followed by a moderate decline to 12.7% in 2011. The report also points out that the unemployment rates of youth have proven to be more sensitive to the crisis than the rates of adults and that the recovery of the job market for young men and women is likely to lag behind that of adults.
UNI Youth 's work will have to incorporate these findings in our work and support the work by the UN and in particular the ILO to improve youth involvement at all levels.
