In February, 2010, Station Casinos workers formed a union organising committee. They called on the company to agree to a fair process for workers to form a union free from management interference, intimidation and harassment. Station Casinos answered the workers' request for a fair process with an aggressive anti-union campaign.
On May 28, the U.S. government issued a massive, 127-count unfair labour practice complaint against the company. The federal government’s complaint alleges that, from February 19 through April 7, Station managers violated employees’ right to organize with threats, intimidation, interrogation, surveillance, bribery, discouragement, discrimination, discipline and physical assault.
This is the largest ever unfair labour practice complaint against a Las Vegas gaming company. Moreover, Latinos are overwhelmingly the subject of these alleged attacks on workers’ rights. Approximately 86% of the charges involved Latino workers.
