Negotiations for signing the collective labour contract for the year 2010 at the Greek telecom operator OTE are still in deadlock. On 29 September UNI's Greek affiliate OME-OTE held a successful strike to address the situation and reach out to union members. Their press release is featured below.
The strike was held to address the intransigent attitude and in many cases the provocative position of OTE towards the unions' demands.
The union OME-OTE said they did not want to bargain away conditions but asked the Administration instead to reduce their enormous remunerations, to create conditions for growth, increase revenue and to sign the collective labour contract that would solve problems and ensure industrial peace and safety of workers.
UNI supports our affiliate OME-OTE in their continuing struggles.

Press Release:
OME-OTE welcomes the universal participation of all employees in OTE Group in the strike of 29th September which was only the beginning of our mobilizations.
The employees with their participation, at this crucial stage, rallied round the union and sent a message of unity showing that they approve the union’s actions despite the Administration’s efforts of disorientation by all means.
The demonstration outside the union’s headquarters was extremely successful and puts more trust for dynamic demonstrations.
Unfortunately once again the political leadership of the Ministry of Finance (the most important shareholder of OTE), was less of the circumstances.
They "hid" and avoided to meet a delegation of OME-OTE , pretending that they had obligations at the Greek Parliament!
The strikers went to the Greek Parliament where a delegation of OME-OTE has been accepted by the President of the Parliament, Mr. Philipos Petsalnikos and handed him a resolution.
Next week OME-OTE’s Council Board will meet to estimate the situation and discuss new forms of escalating the struggle.
We continue our struggle dynamically to protect the interests of the employees and the enterprise.
