On 20 March 2011, the Executive Members of the Insurance & Finance Practitioners Solidarity Sector of the Retail, Commerce and Clothing Industries General Union petitioned to the Chief Executive of Hong Kong demanding the HKSAR government to improve and regulate the present unfair labour contracts for insurance practitioners.



The Solidarity Sector demands:-



“Chinese” is the official language of the HKSAR, yet all labour contracts in the insurance sector, that may be more than 10 pages, are written in English. Some wordings inside the contracts are hard to understand. Therefore, in order to protect both the employers and the employees, all future labour contracts must include the “Chinese Translations”.

The insurance sector must develop a “Standard Model Contract” for all insurance practitioners, in order to abolish all unfair, unreasonable and punitive rules inside the present contracts. With the new model contract, labour and management can enjoy a fair and reasonable relationship.



The Hong Kong Federation of Insurers ( HKFI ) monitor and supervise all policies regarding insurance practitioners and their licenses. However, many insurance companies breach regulations and policies set up themselves. The Sector asks the HKSAR government to set up an “Independent Commission” to due with complaints and grievances from insurance practitioners.



The Solidarity Sector has also requested to meet with the HKFI.
