On April 15, the management of Genysis Consult, a call centre operator in Brussels, locked the doors on their 50 employees.
Workers were left without pay or social documents (and therefore have no possibility to register as unemployed), they still have to go to ask for help from the social security service!
UNI affiliate CNE-CSC condemns these practices which are becoming more common in call centres, such as:
The working conditions in the sector are subject to constant pressure with the development of outsourcing, where wages and
working conditions are the main (if not the only) variable competition between call centre operators.
It is high time to put order in this sector, which is often the gateway to a first professional experience.
In Belgium's current political world (which includes an new rule that focuses on waiting times for consumers) and major clients giving the orders to do so (Belgacom, Electrabel, Mobistar, Voo, etc..) can not remain insensitive to the enormous social damage that we see today.
