“It is devastating to see the ages of the young people who were cut down in cold blood on the island of Utøya,” said UNI General Secretary Philip Jennings. “This is the hardest of blows that one could ever imagine. The flower of union youth cut down by a calculating assassin. We know that all our unions will rise to the challenge in giving comfort to the families, loved ones, friends and colleagues of those who lost their lives.”



There will be a special ceremony to remember the lost Norwegian colleagues at the UNI Europa Conference in Toulouse in October as well as at the next UNI World Executive Board meeting.



“What happened in Oslo and Utøya was a direct attack on our society,” said UNI Europa Regional Secretary Oliver Roethig. “We, as trade unionists, have to rally with all members of the community around our democratic social values, promoting them even more than before. The reaction from the Norwegian people is a great model for all of us to follow.”
