To all UNI- Africa Women
Today marks the 16 days of activism against women and children.
We have our resolutions against violence against Women and children.
But, lets us for this period from 25 November till 10 December 2011.
Be more tolerable towards each other, let’s respect each other.
Our theme for 2011 is FROM PEACE IN THE HOME TO PEACE IN THE WORLD.
This shows again that CHARITY BEGINS AT HOME- if you treat your partner, family and children good it will cascade to community level.
And a healthy community leads to a healthy society and this to a healthy nation.
The government has five themes
- Bringing together women peace and human rights movements to challenge militarism.
- Proliferation of small arms and their role in domestic violence
- Sexual violence in and after conflict – women used as weapons of war.
- Political violence against women including during /pre and post election violence.
- Sexual and gender based violence committed by the police and armed forces
These are some of the themes that will be on this year’s agenda and it fits in well with our resolutions on
NO VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND CHILDREN.
Our roles will be to wear our white ribbons to show support.
Speak out against violence against women and children.
Bring men on board as partners and all vulnerable groups of people including people with disabilities.
Start dialogues where people can speak freely and openly about any issues including HIV/AIDS.
We as UNI SAY NO TO VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND CHILDREN FOR 365 DAYS ……..
