From 22-23 November 2011, the Barclays Forum met in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania around the theme “Strengthening the Network”. Participants were union leaders and Barclays workers coming from countries in Africa were the Multinational operates including Angola, Botswana, Ghana, Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Tanzania, and South Africa.

Participants to the Barclays forum 2011 reported on several issues occurring with the multinational such as: bad working conditions, unfair dismissal and labor practices, Victimization of employees, lack of transparency and lack of social dialogue.

In order to tackle these issues, forum members expressed the need for a stronger network with an efficient communication system that allows more experience sharing. As a solution, they proposed that the forum be transformed into an effective alliance that will lead UNI to the global agreement.

The Barclays Forum 2011 received the total support of the UNI Africa Steering committee members who attended the meeting. Finally, participants called on UNI for solidarity actions and training for organizers to be devoted to organizing Barclays.
