UNI stands in solidarity with the French unions CFDT, CGT, FSU, Solidaires, UNSA in their fight for a just and equitable solution to the crisis that protects workers and their families.



The protest in France come as part of a wave across Europe of worker protests against harsh austerity measures that place a disproportionate burden on workers and vulnerable populations. Millions of workers across Europe have taken to the streets to protest austerity measures in Portugal, Ireland, the UK, Greece, Belgium, Lithuania. The French action comes just a day after millions of Italian workers will strike for three hours over pension cuts and other austerity measures.



“Working people are out on the streets because they can’t afford the heavy price they’re being asked to pay for the financial crisis,” said UNI Europa Regional Secretary Oliver Roethig. “Workers didn’t cause they crisis and they shouldn’t have to pay for it. The only real solution is to help working families get back on their feet and build the economy from the bottom up.”
