Tieto announced that it will reduce its global workforce by 1,300 employees, of which 500 in Finland, close to 300 in Sweden, and about 500 in other countries. The company’s ambition is to save EUR 50 million before 2014. In its press release, Tieto announced that it will continue or expand its operations in countries where it has the potential to be one of the three largest IT service providers.



Tieto chief shop steward Reino Turo said that the layoffs were expected but that he was surprised by their extent. He links the dismissals to the change in management in the company late last year.



Tieto has offices in 26 countries and a global workforce of about 18,000.
