UNI MEI Global Union joins UNI affiliates in Malaysia in condemning the attack on Journalist & Photographers during the Berish rally on Saturday 28^th April 2012. According to reports, more than 12 media workers from various organisations and countries were intimidated and attacked while reporting on the ‘Bersih 3.0’ public rally for electoral reform.



UNI’s Malaysian Liaision Council bringing together all unions affiliated to UNI Global Union called on the Prime Minister and Minister of Home Affairs to thoroughly investigate and bring to book all those involved in the attack on the media workers. The UNI-MLC urged the Prime Minister to appoint a special task force for an independent investigation on this issue.



Our thoughts are with all colleagues that have been attacked and injured said UNI MEI President Gerry Morrissey (UK). This is an attack on media freedom and cannot be tolerated and we join our Malaysian colleagues in their call on the government to carry out a thorough investigation in these attacks.
