Wednesday 5th December, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Labor between trade union organisations (Filcams Cgil, Fisascat Cisl, Uiltucs and Uiltrasporti Uil) and the Compass Group Management, a multinational company operating in the catering and support services sector (360.000 employees around the world), which had announced the dismissal of more than 800 employees out of 7.941.

During the meeting, the trade unions reaffirmed the criticism against both the formal and substantial aspects of the beginning of the dismissal procedure, already denounced during the trade union phase of negotiations, and have confirmed their availability to discuss the contents of the procedure itself, only following the elimination form the discussion of the dismissals.
>
After a long discussion, and with the aid of the Ministry of Labor, the company has modified its position, agreeing to verify if a possible alternative solution to dismissals is applicable. The dismissal procedure has been delayed until the 19th of December, when the parts will be summoned once again to the Ministry of Labor for a new meeting, while during this period, unions and the company will meet to try and identify ways to guarantee the safeguard of working places.
Therefore, dismissals have been avoided, while we search for a possible alternative to save occupational levels:
"We are very happy for this result" states Elisa Camellini, national Secretary of Filcams Cgil, "even if there is still a long road to walk, we were able to avoid the dismissal of over 800 workers. Now we must find an alternative and shared solution, that can defend relevant female and male workers."
