Lån & Spar's multi-annual strategy to improve employee and customer satisfaction has produced results. The Danish Working Environment Council has recently awarded Lån & Spar with the Health and Safety Award in the mental health category for improving the psychosocial work environment. The bank employees' general health has improved in recent years, according to Deputy Director Keld Thornæs. One of the tricks is to offer a complimentary breakfast.



The award is the result of intense cooperative work between the bank’s management and the workers’ representatives on the multi-annual health and safety at work strategy.



Sick leave demands have been drastically reduced. Employee and customer satisfaction have increased significantly, and the bank’s core earnings have improved steadily. Worker representatives report important improvements in the communication between the employees and the bank’s executive. Receiving the award has increased the recognition amongst employees that Lån & Spar is a good workplace and employees take pride in working for Lån & Spar.



Management explains that the universally accepted, complimentary breakfast offer increased employees’ productivity. Close dialogue and coordination between management and workers on the health and safety strategy at the workplace can lead to effective improvements and coordinated efficiency gains as this example proves. Complimentary breakfast is one among numerous measures which allowed Lån & Spar to receive the prestigious Health and Safety Award for 2012, rendering it a great workplace.
