Cases of undocumented workers provide the cleaning industry with a bad image and produces a race to the bottom. Yet, in a written comment to 3F the President of the SBA, Finn Vestergaard, who is also HR director at Denmark's largest cleaning company ISS, said:



"SBA does not want to comment on this case. Partly because we are not familiar with the details of the case, and because we view the matter as a matter between the member company and its subcontractor (s). "



In the present case the two alleged masterminds are now in police custody. According to the charges they have forced up to 50 cleaning people to work up to 23 hours a day for a salary of down to 2,500 danish kroner a month.



Up to 50 Romanian cleaners work for July Cleaning. Darenko subcontracts this company to clean in Copenhagen, Frederiksberg and Egedal municipalities.



Darenko is a member of employers’ federation SBA and thus committed itself to pay wages in accordance with the Agreement and Darenkos owner John Noerager Mulvad has for several years been on the SBA's Board of Directors.



The current President of SBA, Finn Vestergaard, says that in the light of the press coverage of the case they will contact Darenko to clarify whether the company has violated the association's requirements for the use of subcontractors.
