The UNI Apro Organizing forum was held in Bangkok on 27-28 August 2013, where union organizers and organizing in-charges of the unions participated in great enthusiasm.



The Forum was opened with the key note address by UNI Apro Regional Secretary Christopher Ng, where he explained UNI Apro organising strategies that combined skills development for organisers with support to develop a conducive and enabling environments for organising that include respect for trade union rights and acceptance of trade unions as partners in industry and in the socio economic development process. He elaborated on the impact of the strategy on the positive development of the trade unions for the Hero Supermarket employees in Indonesia and the Tesco Lotus employees in Thailand.



He attributed the various organizing achievements in the region to this pragmatic organising strategy. The Organizing Telenor operations in Malaysia, Thailand and in Bangladesh, Organizing and successful settlement of CBA in Teleasonera operation in Nepal, IKEA Malaysia, ASTRO Malaysia and progress in DHL Malaysia and Indonesia were reported as big win achievements in the region.



The Forum developed and agreed an action plan which focused on improving affiliates organizing capacity, establish new organizing campaigns, build networks, increasing the number of global agreements and ensuring effective structures.



Andy Snoddy, Head of UNI Graphical and Alan Tate – UNISCORE Campaign Coordinator - together with Rajendra Acharya, UNI Apro Director for Trade Union Development Activities and Magdalene Kong, UNI Apro Divisonal Director conducted the Forum.
