Commerce UNION of Colombia signs collective agreement with multilatin CENCOSUD

 After 32 days of bargaining, at 11:30 pm, The Colombia Commerce Workers Union and the Chilean multilatin retail company CENCOSUD, through its Jumbo and Metro brands, signed the Collective Bargaining Agreement on December 19, 2013. The company has accepted all of the demands and even some clauses have been improved. The agreement shall come into effect on January 1, 2014 and remain in force for 28 months. This is the second collective bargaining agreement achieved by the Colombia Commerce Workers Union. The first was signed in April 2012, with the French multinational Carrefour.

Phoenix airport workers disappointed at wage cuts

Airport workers at Sky Harbor International in Phoenix, United States, say they are disappointed at receiving unexpected wage cuts despite their employer being awarded an expensive custodial contract.

In July, the Phoenix City Council awarded a $10.1 million yearly contract to San Antonio-based ISS Facility Services Inc. It was hoped the move would provide better working conditions for airport custodial workers, who had complained of their minimum wage pay, lack of paid sick leave and lack of paid vacation.

This meeting enabled CGT and UNI Europa Graphical to explain in details the problems and consequences of this merger.

Dominant position in the market of advertising, impact on the economic balance in the media sector, future governance ... many topics on which we set out our views and raised awareness on potential problems and consequences.

Unions Unite for Migrant Workers’ Rights in Asia Pacific

In a memorandum of understanding signed earlier this month, the regional offices of the global unions UNI, BWI, and PSI together with Migrant Forum in Asia and ASETUC commit to increase their cooperation on migrant workers’ rights through organizing, political advocacy as well as assistance and support to migrant workers.

Millions of workers every year migrate between countries within Asia and many countries depend fully on their work – for example 94 per cent of all workers in Qatar and 69 to 80 per cent of all construction workers in Malaysia are migrants.

Loomis AB signs global labour agreement with UNI Global Union

19th December - UNI Property Services and the Swedish Transport Workers’ Union today signed a Global Agreement with Loomis AB, an international cash handling business headquartered in Stockholm. Loomis, largely concentrated in Europe and the US, employs approximately 22,000 workers in 14 countries.
