Security workers in Germany have won a 13% wage increase. The German union, Ver.di, and the employers association came to an agreement after a series of warning strikes that shut down several airports in Germany last week. 

Lufthansa airline cancelled 18 flights in anticipation of the walk out by the security staff. The strike was so successful that the police were forced to temporarily closeboth terminals at Hamburg Airport, as they had become jammed due to a shortage of personnel.

The on-the-ground power of the striking guards was matched by a wave of international solidarity. Union activists from Europe, Asia and North America sent solidarity messages to the striking workers as well as writing to key multinational companies in their own countries.

The global staff of UNI gathered in Nyon last week and made a special video for the striking workers and security guards who have had the courage and the guts to take a stand for a fair wage in Germany. Watch it here:
