The security guards strike in Germany has now spread to three airports - Stuttgart, Hamburg and Hanover  as well as Neckarwestheim, “AKW” nuclear power station.

UNI affiliate and German services union Ver.di say the strikes are a response to employers’ unwillingness to agree to a just collective bargaining agreement.

The key issue is the union 's demand for a  reasonable wage increase to  9.20 Euros an hour, a 2.50 Euro an hour increase whhile the companies involved are offering only a 0.50 cent raise.

UNI Global Union called striking workers at Hamburg airport with a message of solidarity from its 20 million members and 900 national unions, emphasising  the importance of security work at airports and nuclear plants to the public. Security guards in these jobs should not be struggling with low wages that do not provide sufficient funds to support a family.
