The UNI Europa Youth Steering Group was being held in Paris last week and on 23 September the group took time to show our solidarity to the French workers by joining their demonstration.

Around 300,000 persons attended the demonstration in Paris to show their dismay about plans to raise the retirement age from 60 to 62.

This is an important issue for the French workers who do not wish to work longer when they wish to enjoy their retirement .

This change deeply affects the young workers in France as this would mean fewer jobs being available if retirements are put off for another two years. Ultimately, unemployment levels will increase and young workers opportunities will be dramatically reduced.

The UNI Europa Youth delegation consisted of many nationalities from Belgium, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Portugal, Sweden and the UK. All gave their full solidarity to the French unions and workers making it clear that their fight is our fight!

The whole group was impressed by the whole organisation of the demonstration by the French unions and were pleased we could extend our solidarity to them.
